Frequently Asked Questions

Do you store my birth date or any personal data?

No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your birth date is never saved, transmitted to a server, or shared with anyone. The site is 100% safe to use.

How is the birth moon phase calculated?

We compute the true geocentric ecliptic positions of the Sun and Moon for your date (the method described in Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms) and take their angular difference as the phase angle — not a fixed 29.53-day clock, so it stays accurate no matter how far back your birth date is.

How accurate is the result?

The phase name and illumination are accurate to within about 1–2%. Moonrise/moonset times are typically accurate to within a few minutes of published almanac values.

Does the time of birth matter?

We use the calendar date, which is accurate enough to identify the phase. A few hours rarely change the named phase.

Do you know my location for the moonrise/moonset times?

Only if you explicitly enable it and your browser grants permission. We never store your location — it is used only in your browser, for that one calculation.
